Payroll Assistant

Salary: Market Rate

The main objective of this role is to provide back up to the team of Payroll Consultants:

  • Learn the basics of Payroll - sickness, maternity, holiday and statutory liabilities
  • Assist in the day to day office routines e.g. telephone calls, filing and scanning
  • Process straightforward payrolls that have little or no monthly variations
  • Ensure all statutory liabilities are accounted for and paid over by the due date
  • Understand the requirements of other teams within the firm and send appropriate information
  • Appreciate the requirement of working to a budget
  • Study towards the Foundation Degree in Payroll Management

Your main duties will include:

  • Using Star Payroll Professional payroll system
  • Using HMRC website
  • Research other appropriate websites in order to complete payroll tasks
  • Use of telephone, emails, calendar, printer, scanner and photocopier
  • Filing as required
  • Checking funds coming into clients accounts
  • Providing salary and PAYE information to other teams in the firm
  • Answer queries from clients and employees
  • Providing cash call reconciliations to clients each month
  • Identifying additional work to be invoiced
  • Monitoring, collating and arranging payment of payroll invoices from third party payroll providers
  • Ensuring all payroll invoices have been paid where funds have been received
  • Ensure all client year-end processes are completed by the due dates
  • Setting up new clients on the payroll system as appropriate
  • Developing personal payroll knowledge in order to deal clearly and concisely with queries

This position would ideally suit a college leaver

The successful candidate will also have the following profile and attributes:

  • Ideally some relevant work experience or interest in payroll but more importantly an enthusiastic, smart working individual with a "can do" attitude
  • A willingness to learn and grow within a commercial environment where client care is the primary focus

The Financial Outsourcing department provides services such as:

The main responsibilities of a Financial Administrator will include:

  • Liaising with clients and answering routine queries

As a member of the outsourcing team, you will receive on the job training and will be provided with the opportunity to learn a variety of accountancy software packages and build strong relations with clients. Advanced development is encouraged and will be rewarded with the assignment of additional responsibilities such as the preparation of statutory accounts and VAT returns enabling the candidate to advance to the next level in their career.

Essential Requirements

  • Possess at least three Bs at A level (or equivalent)
  • Possess a minimum of seven A-C grades at GCSE level including grades B or above in both English and Maths.
  • Strong IT skills and sound knowledge of excel
